AGL Membership Pledge
This pledge has been created by gun owners who want to increase gun safety and to reduce deaths.
Always assume a gun is loaded
Always keep my finger off the trigger
Keep my gun clean and maintained
Keep the action open open and the gun unloaded until I’m ready to use the gun
Never point the muzzle of a gun at anything I don’t want to shoot, always point in a safe direction
My gun should be stored unloaded and separate from ammunition when the firearm isn’t needed for ready-access defensive use
Hiding a gun from children is not safe or effective
If there is a gun in the house, keep it out of sight from children
If there is not a gun in the house, teach kids what to do if they do find one (potential dangers, etc.)
Guns should be kept locked and unloaded with ammunition kept separately
Educate my household on gun safety, explore “gun-proofing” with child/children by proper training and controlled, closely supervised access to reduce natural curiosity
Teach children not to touch a firearm if they discover one, leave the area and tell an adult immediately
Lock-up cleaning supplies because they can be poisonous
Never leave a gun unattended
When privately transferring ownership of a gun, always go through a person/store that is Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL)
Have discussions in my neighborhood about safety
Pledge to get guns away from friends in a dangerous state of mind - potential for harming others or themselves. (Let’s be very careful with this one to minimize chances of safe owners being targeted.)
Take a safety course, make it fun, bring a friend, bring kids, neighbors
Ask the closest range will sponsor a safety day and provide a discount for range time (the ranges I go to offers free lessons for teachers
Invest in trigger locks
